April 23-24, 2007 Eight members of TTRWF attended the 32nd Annual Advocacy Workshop in Sacramento in April. The Workshop teaches students from all over California the Republican principles. This year 213 students attended, and 296 RWF women attended. Governor Arnold was the morning’s keynote speaker! Boy were the flashbulbs blinding! He spoke about the many things he has been able to work through with the Democrats and the Republicans. The NFRW President, Beverly Davis, from Utah, energized the ladies to bring in younger members – bring in your daughters and granddaughters – as they are our future. Melanie Morgan, conservative radio talk show host on KSFO in San Francisco, spoke about being the chairman of “Move America Forward”, which is the largest grassroots pro-troops and pro-America organization, with over 1 million on their e-mail list. Several Sacramento Republican legislators also spoke on the many issues facing California including education, water, prisons and illegal immigration.
March 27-29, 2007 Washington D.C. Mavis Bowes, National Regent from TTRWF, along with 260 other Republican Women attended, the National Federation of Republican Women’s Spring Board Meeting in Washington D.C., the week of March 27. The keynote speakers were Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House (and possible Republican candidate for U.S. President in 2008), and Rich Galen, publisher of Mullings and former press aide to Dan Quayle. On March 29 more than 215 NFRW Regents and Capitol Regents donned their “red coats and yellow ribbons” to visit the U.S. Capitol and to meet with legislators and attend committee hearings. Mavis met with Congress-man John Doolittle and his staff. They also met with Doro Bush Koch, sister of President Bush. The most memorable event was on March 28, when more than 200 NFRW Regents and Capitol Regents enjoyed refreshments with Mrs. Bush on the White Houses’s second floor. Group photographs of the Regents and Mrs. Bush were taken in the Blue Room. These were a fast paced five days . . . the cherry blossoms were out on the Capitol Mall and hundreds of people were flying kites. What a sight!
