The Birth of TTRWF On March 3, 1994 the Truckee Republican Women, Federated was Chartered. In January 1994, Truckee local Linda Shane brought together a group of Republican women and introduced them to Mavis Bowes. Mavis, a recent resident of Truckee and a 30 year member of the Republican Women, explained her desire to start a Republican women's club in Truckee. A committee of five enthusiastic ladies formed the beginning of TRWF: Linda Shane, Mavis Bowes, Janet Hanley, Margie Neibert, and Sharine Drake. The committee spent several evenings calling every Republican household in Truckee, in eastern Nevada County and eastern Placer County. In February 75 women were invited to an informal meeting so ideas could be shared and information about the National Federation of Republican Women was discussed. Originally 24 members signed up that evening. At the first official meeting on March 3, 1994, the following officers were elected: President Sharine Drake, Vice President Georgeanne Santiago, Secretary Margie Neibert, and Treasurer Linnea Defer. Mavis Bowes was appointed Parliamentarian. In 1999, the club's name was changed from "Truckee" to "Truckee-Tahoe" to encompass all the women in the North Lake Tahoe area.
